Sexually Oriented Businesses & Pornography
FF Position on Sexually Oriented Businesses and Pornography
We believe that God created humans in His image, intentionally male and female, each bringing unique and complementary qualities to sexuality and relationships. Sexuality is a glorious gift from God to be offered back to Him either in marriage for procreation, union and mutual delight or in celibacy for undivided devotion to Christ. Christians are called to proclaim the truth and beauty of God's design and the redemption of sexual brokenness in our lives and culture through Jesus Christ.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:1-2
A sexually oriented business is any business that exploits interest in sex in a graphic manner. Problems caused by S.O.B’s include:
- The neighborhood or business district surrounding sex businesses typically suffers a decline in property values and urban blight— people and businesses fleeing the community.
- Increase in neighborhood and business district crime especially sex crimes and includes rape, sexual assault, prostitution and illegal drug sales.
- Proliferation of organized crime.
- Increase in health dangers--one witness before the Commission called these booths "AIDS transmission centers"
- Supports underground sex trade and human trafficking
- Takes advantage of under-aged girls
- Emotional dysfunction and abuse/rape of women
